Critical insights about Mike Huckabee
Huckabee and Obama Political Allies On Afghanistan
Dec 4th
This week, Mike Huckabee writes of the President that “His supporters on the left… must have felt like they’d gotten a hard spanking by their big brother.” He’s referring to Barack Obama’s decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan, rather than scaling it back and changing the nature of the mission there from military to diplomatic and humanitarian.
Huckabee continues, “Republicans concerned about the war on terror have frequently been critical of the President’s handling of this national security threat. Now, we owe him our non-partisan support.”
Huckabee ought to be careful in assuming that all Republicans support escalating the war. There are those within the GOP, Congressman John Duncan, for example, who warn that the eight-year-and-counting war in Afghanistan still lacks a clearly-definable standard of victory, and the US would do better to begin a pullout now. Huckabee is correct, however, that American progressives are growing increasingly angry about Barack Obama’s adoption of right wing ideology.
It’s not a partisan divide. It’s a matter of principle, and Barack Obama’s chances of winning a re-election fade every time he gives a “spanking” to the progressive activist base that got him elected in 2008. It doesn’t look good for Obama when voters see him getting a big old hug from Mike Huckabee.
A Simple Christmas Breaks Its Own Promise
Dec 1st
The promise of Mike Huckabee’s new book, A Simple Christmas:
“Christmas has become synonymous with shopping, overindulging, competition, and stress. But according to Mike Huckabee (who was a pastor before getting into politics), that was never God’s intention. Going back to the Nativity, Christmas is supposed to be about simple things.”
The reality of A Simple Christmas, straight from Mike Huckabee’s own web site:

In partnership with Premier Collectibles, you can now get an autographed, limited edition copy of the book with a leather collectible gift box and a certificate of authenticity! The book will be numbered and certified so that you can be sure that you have one of these precious, rare, deluxe… um… simple… uh…
Huckabee’s store also offers you an A Simple Christmas official book tour shirt to buy for 35 dollars.
Way to keep it simple, without all that shopping, competition and overindulgence, Huckabee.
What Yuckabee Is Not
Nov 30th
We started the Yuckabee web site back in 2008, when Mike Huckabee was surging ahead in the race for the Republican nomination to become President of the United States. Today, we’re starting the Yuckabee blog, and I want to make it clear why it isn’t that it’s happening at this time.
It isn’t about Maurice Clemmons.
Huge numbers of news organizations are targeting Mike Huckabee this week because, when he was Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee let Maurice Clemmons out of prison. Recently, Maurice Clemmons killed four police officers.
The accusation being made against Mike Huckabee is that he should have known Maurice Clemmons was no good, and would do hideous things if let out prison. But then, how could Huckabee have known these things? How could he have known that Clemmons would murder four police officers?
Clemmons was sentenced to stay in prison for the rest of his life at the age of 16 – as a child. There were reasons, when Clemmons had released, to think that he had changed sufficiently to no longer be a threat to anyone. There were reasons, as well, to think that Clemmons could become very dangerous to society.
But then, most people could become dangerous to society. I understand why some people are angry at Huckabee for releasing Clemmons, but I’m not one of them. I’m angry at Mike Huckabee for the much more pervasive damage he wants to do to society with an agenda that would make the United States of America a recreation of medieval Europe.
